Total factor productivity in agriculture (Tfp):
The index examines productivity as a whole, when the development of output is compared with the total number of all inputs, and as partial productivity, when output is compared with each input at a time. For example, work productivity, capital productivity and the productivity of material use comprise partial productivity.
The development of productivity is examined by using five different indicators: 1) Output/all inputs, 2) Output/inputs used as intermediate products (not including costs of work, land and capital), 3) Output/labour, 4) Output/land, and 5) Output/capital. These indicators have been calculated at the 2005 level. In addition, three-year sliding averages of these figures have been calculated.
Data sources of indicators that measure productivity are based on Eurostat's EAA data. However, the following cost items have been calculated in accordance with the Tfp methodology:
Cost of labour = EAA salary costs (EAA item 23000) × awu_total ÷ awu_salar (AWU = annual work unit)
Cost of land = EAA field rent (EAA item28000) = UAA_total ÷ UAA_rented
(UAA = utilised agricultural area)
Alternative cost of equity = EAA consumption of fixed assets (EAA item 21000) ÷ average depreciation (FADN material) × interest rate
