The carbon content indicates the volume of organic matter in soil. Organic matter improves the structure of mineral soil and its ability to withhold nutrients and moisture. In the survey, Finland was divided into four parts (north, east, west and south) on the basis of natural variation in soil. Division of organic soil: organic matter 20-40 % in clay soil and more than 40 % in peat soil.
