The Excel table based on Eurostat databases presents GDP per capita adjusted by purchasing power regarding the whole of Finland and the EU27 area at market prices in the EU urban-rural typology in 2005 - 2013. GDP at market prices is received when income taxes calculated at the level of the national economy are added to gross value added at basic prices and product subsidies calculated at the level of the national economy are deducted. Purchasing power parity (PPP) is received when values between different currencies (purchasing power standards, PPS) are calculated using comparisons of prices between countries. PPP measures the value of currencies of national economies according to the level of products and services that can be purchased with each specific country's currency. By using values adjusted by purchasing power, it is easier to compare outputs of different national economies per capita. EU urban-rural typology:
The typology of the OECD/Eurostat first defines uniform areas with a population of at least 5,000 people where the population density is at least 300 people per square kilometre as urban areas. Other areas are regarded as rural areas. Secondly, NUTS 3 areas (Finnish regions) are classified, in accordance with the number of population living in rural areas, as rural areas when the proportion of the rural population is more than 50 per cent, as intermediate areas when the proportion is 20 - 50 per cent, and as urban areas when the proportion is less than 20 per cent. If a town of at least 500,000 people is located in a NUTS 3 area, it will always be regarded as an urban area. If a town of at least 200,000 people is located in a NUTS 3 area, it will be regarded as an intermediate area.
