Now you have come to the page, Choose variable. This page give you the oportunity to select which variables and values you want to display in your result of the table. A variable is a property of a statistical unit. The page is divided into several boxes, one for each variable, where you can select values by click to highlight one or more values. It always starts with the statistics variable which is the main value counted in the table.

The statistics is published every year from 2016 onwards. At that time, the production of the statistics was renewed in parallel with the reform of the Fisheries Act when joining to the register of commercial fishers was made mandatory for everyone who intended to fish commercially.
The statistics of professional fishing was published every two years (even years) from 1998 to 2014.
- = due to protection of the privacy of data providers, the catch of Uusimaa in 2002-2006 has been combined with the catch of Southwest Finland, the catch of Uusimaa in 2008-2012 has been combined with the catch of Häme, and in 2014-2023 the catch of Uusimaa has been combined with the catch of Southwest Finland. European river lamprey is included in the catch of other species and the total catch of all species.

Information

Relative standard error (%)
The relative standard error is the ratio of the standard error of a variable to its expected value. In tables, it is expressed as a percentage.
The standard error estimates the effect of sampling error on the accuracy of a variable. The 90% confidence interval for a point estimate published in the statistics is calculated using the relative standard error as follows: Point estimate ± 1.64 × relative standard error × point estimate.
Example: In 2024, the vendace catch was 2,078 tons, and the relative standard error was 6.1 percent. The calculation is: 2,078 ± 1.64 × 0.061 × 2,079.
In practice, this means that with 90 percent probability, the vendace catch was between 1,870 and 2,286 tons in 2024.
