I resultaten av beräkningen av kolbalans representerar negativa siffror kolsänkor och positiva siffror utsläppskällor.
Beräkningsenheten är ton koldioxidekvivalenter (Mt CO2-ekv.) och förutom totala kolbalansen per landskap presenteras även en uppskattning per hektar i förhållande till arealen (t CO2-ekv./ha).
Skogens kolbalans per landskap beräknades enligt metoden för ”skogsmark som bevarats skogsmark” i den nationella växthusgasinventeringen. Innehållet och metoderna för beräkningen beskrivs i metodbeskrivningen för experimentell statistik.
